Football
Since childhood I have played football, and then I mean the real game which
in the US is called Soccer. Coming from my homevillage of Alvik it was
very hard not to, because all the children was playing in the local
club, Alvik IK. My friends and I did almost nothing but play football,
on the lawns of our homes, at school on the breaks and of course with
the club. We were successful and won some cups and local series.
As we
grew older and had to go to school in Luleå some players found other
interests than sports as the competition got harder and training got
tougher. As juniors, aged 16, we were playing under the men's section
of the club instead of the youth section, and the goal was to take a
place in the real team representing Alvik then in the 3rd division. Some of
us did, and the others played on in the junior series. I played with
Alvik IK for five years without really
playing a single important game. Since I was the goalkeeper it was very
hard to take a place in the top eleven.
In 1993 I moved to Uppsala and here I've played for Viksta
IK in the 7th division (1994) and Hagby IF in the 6th division (1995) and in some students series. After
winning the Uppsala Students Championships in the spring of -95, an
opponent from the losing side of the final approached me and asked if I
was spending my summer in Luleå, and if his club back home could
contact me.
Överkalix IF in the 4th division called me and finally I signed
for them, and have played some with them in the 4th
division (1995-1997). These years in Överkalix has been the best of my football career. The summer of 1997 I played only the first two matches of the season since it became too expensive for Överkalix to get me for the matches since I worked in Uppsala about 1100 km away, so I tried to find a new club. I found IF Trikadien, a nice gang of students residing in the 6th division, and played a handfull of matches with them during the fall. A shoulder injury kept me from playing more matches.
After the season, I got a call from Uppsala-Nääs IK (UNIK) in the 5th who wanted to test me if I were interested. I thought it could be nice with some regular football activity during the long off-season so I went there. They wanted me and I signed for them. I played in an indoor tournement before christmas 1997 and will be training with them during the winter. Since I am a student and as such don't make my clubs any promises I don't know if I will be playing with UNIK this summer so they have signed one more goalkeeper in addition to me and their old three ones. It could be big challange if we are five to compete for the place in the top eleven this summer. We'll see, and I'll report on this page.
