B-boying is a form of hip-hop dancing, which is known as breaking. It consists of footwork, spinning moves and freeze. B-boying came from Bronx in New York. The expression B-boy came from Kool Herc who was a B-boy in Bronx. B-boy stand for break boys and they were called so because they danced to "the break part of music". The first generation of B-boys who became famouse were "Nigger twins", "Clark Kent" and "Zulu Kings".

During 1977 breakdance lost itīs popularity among the black kids. However, the breakdance came back with a brand new generation. This time it was the Puerto Rican B-boys who put some new energy into breakdance and took it up to another level. They started to put acrobatic and gymnastic movements into breaking and came up with many new motions. The windmill, for instance, came from the fight sport Kung fu, which was used to get up from the floor. And when they were repeating it, the windmill was born.

In the 1980īs the breakdance spread out of New York and the rest of the world. B-boying became very popular as "Breakdance" by media. But when the media stopped showing breakdance at TV, people thought that it was only a fad. Some B-boys stopped b-boying just because of the media.

After 1985 the "winter period" came for the B-boys, it was a time when not so many danced. Then resurgence of b-boying happened around 1990. I donīt know exactly how it happened, but I guess it was by the support of the real B-boys who never stopped b-boying during the "winter period".

Some famous events are: B-BOY SUMMIT and ROCK STEADY ANNIVERSARY. They are organized every year and B-boys from all around the world come and try to take breakdance to the next level.
