Pictures from Romania and Bulgaria 2003

The pictures comes from a trip to Romania and Bulgaria in June 2003. The tour started and ended in Romania, but most of the time was spent in Bulgaria.

After arriving Bucharest we were transfeered to the railway station Otopeni for a chartered trip on the ring line around Bucharest with a historic railcar. The ring is mainly build up by connecting existning lines to each other.

The harbor in Constanta is the largestst in romania. The pictures comes from visit at June 14 2003.

The steel works in Ispat Sidex in Galati

The steel works in Ispat Sidex is the largest in Romania with 6700 employes. The annual production is 5 million tons of steel, 75% of the production is for export. The internal railway net includes 350 km tracks and 1500 switches. some parts of the network has broad gauge for trains from Ukraine.

Coal is imported by train from Kazackstan. The buildings on the left picture is used for de icing wagoons in winter.
