K'Varak Keepling's Background
I originally come from a little village called Hotnia two hours
north of Zetta in the Iridian Empire.
My father was, and probably still is, the citys greatest alchemist. My family owns a shop
and has quite a few merchants working for us. My mother doesn't have an occupation, she
is quite happy to tend the home, though my father says that we can afford one or two
housekeepers. I was the first to be born in the house of Keepling. After me followed
Singare, Fredrick and Frincal. Fredrick, my only brother and the youngest of us siblings,
is six years younger then me. When I was born, a seer declared that a family curse had
fallen upon me, all my children will be crippled in a way or other. My father has got an
unusual helm, it is a helm that the King of the Iridian Empire gave to my forfather when
he helped him in the war against the evil orcs. The helm has been given to son after son,
and it was to be given to me at my birthday of manhood. But I declined the helm, because
of the curse I won't have any children. So the helm will be given to Fredrick. My mother
is a revered person in the village. Once, before I was born, she cured a messenger of the
king from a deadly disease by herself, because father was in Zetta. If she hadn't done
this the king would probably be very angry but mother saved the village from the kings
wrath. I the process of saving the messenger, he tore of a bit of mothers left ear, and
that wound is a reminder to all villager what she had done. Mother was an authority figure
in the village and every once in a while people come to her with problems to be solved,
and she always could find a solution or compromise that would please them.
At age of eight I became restless and wanted to seek out the world, but my father said no. I wasn't to leave the family home until I had reached the age of manhood. He then started to teach me the secrets of alchemy, I had it in my blood and it took it all in easily. One day that I was out walking in the forest outside Hotnia, I came across a oil-lamp that just laid there on the ground. I started rubbing it, remembering the old tales of the genie in the lamp. I didn't really think anything would happen, so you can imagine the surprise when a little fairy flied out of the lamp. She told me that she had been trapped there by an evil sorcerer a thousend years ago, but she couldn't say how she got here. Because I released the fairy she blessed me. She said that any women I met would be like wax in my hands. I didn't understand the bless, but after a few years I understood the power in that bless.
At my fourteenth birthday I finally reached my manhood. I decided that I would leave the Iridian Empire and seek out the real adventure. My parents said that I would always be welcome back, but I said that I wouldn't come back. I ended up in Krakatus, where I met Loki. He was only seven years old, but beeing a Rjurik he had a strenght that would scare of most of the kids on the street. We became very good friends and we were unseparable. Before we met I was weak and kids treated me cruely, Loki wasn't so bright and kids could fool with him because of that. Together we were both strong and had wits and brains, so the others were scared of us. We became bloodbrothers, we shared eachothers blood and the bond we shared is a strong one. After two years he came in trouble beyond our comprehension. He had made enemies that was stronger than we can imagine and he was forced to flee on a merchantsboat and I thought that I would never see him again.
I went away from the city to get away from the other kids that saw an opportunity to get even. I didn't get so far when I met a merchant that treated me like a king. He told me that I was a reincarted hero. The merchant was a loyal follower of Sera, the goddess of merchants and luck. He took me to a temple of Sera, and I followed gladly because I wanted to get away anyway. In the temple they took me as a normal person, but to make the merchant, that thought I was a hero, happy, they teached me in the ways of a true warriorpriest. Or they tried. I didn't like the prayingstuff and I wasn't so fond of the blunt weapons. So they teached me how to "talk somebodys shoes off".
I felt more confident of myself, so I went back to the city. On my way back I came across an old man beeing robbed on the road. I scared them off with my wit and my skill in the sword. He was very thankful and he blessed me with some gifts. He made me resistant to magic, gave me an direction sense and made my mind consealed against others. I started to spend my days in Dominguez school. There I mastered the technique of using a sword and dagger. In my freetime I was in the Harlequins Inn. There I got to know the lovely lady Gresdin Faer. She was the most beutiful woman alive, and I started to court her. She told me that no man would possibly want her because she cannot have anymore children, the first and only birth had gone wrong, so she were damaged. I told her that it doesn't matter and I told her about my curse. Now we are lovers. We live together in her home, with her daughters son. Hamlin, the boy, was five years old and we get along very great. He thinks of me as a father and I treat him as a son. Gresdins daughter had this child with a man she didn't know. She died in a disease, and Gresdin took care of Hamlin. I should mention that Gresdin is fifteen years older than me, but that is invisible to the eye, she is like a rose, just sprung out.
After living with Gresdin for eight years, I was 27 years, I found myself in a fight with some followers to Aryak with the Thousand Eyes. I helped another person and we won. Afterwards I buyed him a beer, and it turns out to be Loki, back from the world. We greeted each other as we did when we were children. Both of us had changed much but that didn't seem to be a problem. I took him to my wife Gresdin and they got along great. Even our twelve year old son Hamlin (I call him son) liked him very much. This was all very pleasing to me, and I was glad to have found a long lost friend. I helped him, as when we were kids, and I helped him out from his life as a lawbreaker.

Walking through the secret corridor, she watches the other corridor
running parallel with this. She could see what was going on there, while
the ones on the other side could only see a wall. Aryaks magic is indeed a
mighty one. Finally she arrives at the end of the corridor, where she is
able to observe the entrance. Right in time she is, as the adventuring
party enters the keep.
The four men look around, but no one can see Elwyn. She immediatly
recognises them. She have never met them in person, but she has heared
about them. Loki, the thief, who has more than once given the followers of
Aryak problems. His companion, K'varak, a fierce fighter with a little
magic up his sleeve. The fire wizard Jargail and the cleric named Nimsaph.
"Let's see if I can scare them a little bit." Elwyn thinks. She leans
nearer the wall and speaks with a loud voice, " Begone, or you will surely
die!!" The adventurers look around, trying to find the source of the
voice, but finally give up.
As expected they not not turn and flee. They instead start making plans
for exploring the keep. It is finally decided that K'varak will go first,
invisible, to scout out the area, while the others slowly follow. "Hmmm, I
wonder if I should warn the acolytes. Naaah, if they die, they probably
deserve it. Besides it would be interesting to see the adventurers
strategy." So Elwyn just follows, observing the party. As they pass the
first door, she presses a button and the door slammes shut. "So that will
keep them in until they have found my small surprises."
She watches the four adventurers as the attack and defeat the acolytes.
"As I thought, they weren't more than a nuisance. Lucky for them, that
they are dead. Otherwise I would have punished them." Before they
continue, K'varak removes a ring and gives it to the wizard. This time you
go in front, invisible, he says to him. "Interesting. A ring of
invisibility. I will keep that in mind."
Then the party come to a room where they expect to find a treasure. "I
see they found the map, that the trogs were carrying. They fell into that
little trap. I knew that was a good idea. Oh, my god, I am so brilliant.
They really expect a real treasure. Let's see they are in the room. Now
it's time to spring the trap." Elwyn pulls a lever and the floor
underneath the adventurers gives way. She watches them smugly as the fall
into the darkness below. "Now my orcs will take care of them. I just hope
the invisible wizard is with them." She stays for a few moments, watching,
just in case that the wizard should still be there. As she makes ready to
leave, the secret compartment, which is marked on the map, opens. "Aah, he
is still here. Good, he takes all the items I have planted there and the
other map. This is indeed very good."
As the wizard is invisible she cannot follow his movements, so she goes to
the next little hazard, the wooden golem. After a short while, the golem
starts moving and Jargail becomes visible. The golem becomes very short
lived, just as Elwyn expected. Next, the location of secret treasure
number two. Jargail takes all the items hidden there. "He has looted both
so called treasures. As expected."
When the wizard encounters the next little surprise, the bronze golem, he
turns and flees. "Jargail's reputation seems to be overrated. I would have
thought that he could defeat a measly golem." Fleeing for his life the
cowardly wizard encounters the other three members of the party. K'varak
looks badly hurt, but the others seem all right. "So they killed my orcs.
Doesn't matter. Orcs are easy to replace. Let's see how they fare aginst
the lava squirting bronze golem." Elwyn observes how they fight. She sees
some of Nimsaphs spells and Loki's dimension door power. She smiles even
as the destroy the golem.
The four adventures continue towards the center of the keep. Elwyn cannot
help smiling when she thinks of her pet dragon, that awaits them. It is
only a child, but it looks fearsome enough. Now, K'varak takes the lead
with his ring of invisibility, so Elwyn follows the others. Suddenly
K'varak appears in front of the rest. He tells them about the dragon.
They decide that since the dragon is asleep right now, They will try to
sneak past him, with the invisible K'varak in the lead.
"It is a little bit too easy for them." Elwyn thinks and when they
started to sneak, she used her ring to wake the dragon. The beast
instantly wakes and sees the humans around him. The acid breath of
the dragon almost kills Nimsaph, but they get away. The dragons chain
is to short and prevents him from following. Elwyn cannot resist the urge
to laugh as she sees Loki, Nimsaph and Jargail cower in an adjoining
room. But she does not see K'varak. "He must have slipped through.",
she thinks.
She hurries to see if he has found the Eye. No, the eye is still in the
inner chamber and K'varak is still invisible. "Doesn't matter, I will be
alerted if he touches the Eye." She returns to the others and watches
them as they try to make up plans for killing the dragon. Suddenly, a
high pitched sound echoes through the keep. "The Eye he has taken it.
Then, the shadows and gargoyles that I created should come to kill him."
She turns to go to the inner chamber, when she sees that the three others
have decided what to do. Nimsaph and Jargail start running back, towards
the exit. They seem have had enough. But Loki runs toward the dragon.
As the alarm sounded, the dragon turned around to face the corridor
leading to the inner chamber. Loki sees his chance, and with a daring
leap, he jumps right up on the dragons back. Plunging his dagger into
the neck of the beast, he holds on while the dragon tries to throw him
off. Then, from nowhere, a swift stroke draws blood from the dragons
throat, as K'varak appears in front of the beast. Before the dragon has
had time to react, Loki has created a dimensional doorway that the two
adventurerers disappear through.
Then the gargoyles and shadows come. They see only the dragon, so they
continue their flight. There they encounter Jargail and Nimsaph, who
apparently decided to help their comrades. Nimsaph quickly turnes the
undead shadows and Jargail captures the stony gargoyles in a web. Then
the dragon comes around the corner and the wizard cuts loose with a wand.
A fireball explodes in the dragons face and it falls to the ground,
dead.
"Loki and K'varak suddenly enters the scene. It seems as if they did not
go so far with the dimensional door. After telling each other about how
glorious their part of this has been, they take the Eye and leave. I let
them. They have taken what I wanted them to take. Although they have
taken some thing they should not, they may live. For now..."

(13th of Marem) On our way
We came to Krakatus after two weeks and I met my wife. Pherchel, Rifgin and Rodnish went
further to the main capitol Specularum, where they would try to find us a boat that would
take us to the Milachian Isles. Loki said that he had some business to attend to, I didn't
even wanna know what, because I knew of his criminal past, and I trusted him.
Krakatus
The day after, when I started to calm down, I went trough everything in my head (have to
find the guilty one and start some heavy punishing). One, the murderer must have known that
we (or at least I) was after Aryaks eyes, and we don't actually tell everyone about it. It
could be one of Aryaks followers... or one of us? (no, I trust them). Two, I had found a
key, a copy of my housekey (a bad copy, but it did the job, apparently). That meens that
somebody was near me or Gresdin to steal the key, copy it, and then put it back. Without us
noticing. Could be anybody in a city like this. (but I am keeping the copy, hoping there is
some way I can connect the copy with the assassin) So, it wasn't just some random murder
(the copying of the key could prove that). Three, I couldn't see anything missing from
Gresdins study, but that doesn't mean nothing was taken, I don't know how much stuff there
was in the first place. So, either the assassin wasn't a thief or he knew what he wanted
and just took that. After we buried Gresdin, Hamlin and I had a long talk. We decided that
he would come with me, so that he could get some real experience. He wanted to anyway.
Loki came to me the day after, but he looked a little different. I had gotten used to look
down (litterally) on him (because of his doll-size). But now... he was larger.. taller than
me... oh, he had became a gnoll. A big humanoid dog, a lot better than the doll-look he had
before anyway... He told me this how he got this way. He had been seeing this woman (a
mage) that had an experimental treatment of taking a mind and putting it an other creatures
body. Loki said he jumped at the chance to become human again, but when he woke up, he was
a gnoll. And he found a note which said "You got what you deserved" and it was
signed Elwyn. I know I had heard that name before, but couldn't remember where... But hey,
I hear a lot of names.

Another Tower
We flew over a desert and into an oasis. We found a greater genie in the water.
He said that he would do three favors if we let the smaller genie go. We agreed
and the first thing we asked was that he would take us, and the people in
Quagmire to the tower south of Quagmire. He did that and when we got there we
saw that the tower was inhabited with Gnolls. I asked the genie to remove them
and so he did. But inside was also a couple of goblins and wolfs and trolls and
a slimy thing. But eventually we cleaned the place up. The people was very happy
and they told us where the "eye of Aryak" should be. It was probably in a third
tower that was under water, south from here. They even gave us some old
letters in an old language which probably should say where the other "eyes" should
be. The third thing we asked the genie was to be taken back to the ship. That we
were and then we set sail.

Underwater
We travelled to the spot were we thought the "eye" would be. I and Jargail drank
potions of waterbreathing while Red Zora had a ring of wateradaption. After a while
we found the "eye", and swam up.
We went thereafter to the nearest city to rest and buy more food and water. It was
K'Sar. When we got there we asked wanted to meet someone that could translate the
letters. We found out that the only one that sould be able to translate the letters
would de the royal wizard of K'Sar. When we asked him to translate the letters for us
he told us that it would take some time, to much time in fact, so he sent us to another
person he said could translate it for us.

(15th of Serenem)
Loki had found out that there was some Aryak activities in a land in the
north. We decided to go there to put an end to them. Loki couldn't find
rest until they were gone.
(29th of Serenem)
We have arrived to this land after two weeks of riding. Why couldn't they be somewhere
nearer? We talked to the royal mage, (well he wasn't so good, I've seen students better
then him) and he said that he was investigating in the followers of Aryak. He, or more
likely some happy adventurers, had found a red stone orb, in a shape of an eye. And in the
middle there was some kind of red gem. He said that it was powerful, and so on. While
looking at it, there was some kind of glittering in the corner and suddenly three men
appeared. They were followers of Aryak , I jumped to that conclusion because one of them
had a eye on the robe and the fact that he said that we would die if we interfered with
Aryak... The other two were big musclegorillas with swords. They were slow and soon dead.
But the priest, I think of him as a priest, disappeared with the gem that were in the eye.
The mage thanked us and told us that there was a group of adventurers in the town. He said
that we should wait until he had investigated about this matter and we did that.
We didn't even get out of the room until we stumbled upon the group. There were four of
them, A little dwarf with bad breath and three other men, fairly neutral in their looks. We
greeted eachother and they said, after we told our story about Aryak, that they would go to
two places, one of them might be a place where the followers of Aryak would dweld. We agreed to go with them and help them
(30th of Serenem)
We had gone to an old castle, with holes in the walls. The reason we had gone here was
one of them, Reilon Geir I think, had a map since he was a little boy. We saw
that there were bug-bears there that had taken the castle as their home. We went in through
one of the holes that led us into a large room. An empty room... The door that led out of
there was locked so, suddenly, the dwarf kicked down the door. Behind the door two bugbears
attacked us, we killed them quite fast. Or it was the dwarf that killed them, he blocked
the door, so nobody could enter and fight with him. We went in and decided that we sould
split up so that it wouldn't take so long, and it was rather crowded in here. Before any
decicion was made, a doubledoor suddenly opened and two bugbears ran for us. Behind them
stood an bugbearmagician. Reilon (the weak, but kind) got really hurt, but the rest of us
took care of the two. I started to run after the magician and in a lucky hit with my sword
I cut his ankles off, luckily he died. We took the stairs up that we found in the room. Up
there I opened one of the doors. I saw a man dressed in robes and when he saw me, he said
"intruder, you shall die", or something like that and pointed a wand against me. I closed
he door to open it again for a surprise attack. But down the hall another door opened and
there he stood. We stood rather close together, our mistake because he sent forward a tiny
red spot that exploded in a fireball. Loki got really hurt and we others were sent away by
the blast. Nimsaf had thrown himself down on the ground and started to shoot at him with
his crossbow, he was the fastest shooter I've ever seen. I had flown through the door in
he blast. Tok, tok, tok, the bolts from Nimsafs crossbow hit the wizard in the chest. But
he managed to send a sleep spell on Nimsaf. Jargail, the firemage, send a web spell on the
wizard and he was entagled in the web. Then Pherchel the dwarf throwed a knife at him so he
became still. Loki was still down so Nimsaf, apparently a cleric, stopped the bleeding. In
the wizards room we found some potions, two of them I recognized as healing potions. I gave
some to Loki and he waked up. But as a side effect he began to shrink. When he was half the
size he stopped shrinking. It would have been funny if he wouldn't been so hurt. Suddenly
we heard someone yell "Thief, Thief, he is stealing me!" We ran towards the sound and then
we found Jargail, and in his hands there was a spellbook with a mouth that yelled, gross.
When he closed the book the mouth dissapeared. Jargail didn't seem to be pleased, he said
that there must be more treasure. We decided that we should search trough the whole castle.
Downstairs we found a door that was apparently magically locked. Well, what could we do?
Then Jargail remembered that he had found a magical wand, with a little star on the top, in
the belt of the bugbearmagician. He used it against the wall next to the door that was
magically locked. To our surprise a rhino appeared and started to run, smashing the wall
and then through the next wall and then dissapearing in the woods. We stood all for a while
and just stared at the hole that the rhino had made. Inside there was stairs down and some
old furniture that had been rotten for ages. Because Reilon, Loki and Pherchel was at the
rink of death, hanging by a thread, they waited for us up here while Jargail, Nimsaf and
myself went down. Down there we encountered four undead. I think it was ghouls. They
started to run against us. But I knew that Nimsaf was a cleric, and clerics have the
ability to turn undead so I didn't worry, not until he failed and in panic I throwed up my
hand and "flashed" them, they went blind and backed away. Nimsaf jumped on one of them and
started hitting. Jargail created a ball of fire on the midst of them so they got burned. I
drank a potion of speed that I found in the wizards lab. I became very fast, so I couldn't
manage the speed so I got down on my knees and became five years younger, pain spread
trough my body. Then I jumped up, ran towards the first, and in blur of swords and daggers
killed one. Nimsaf got hit by the last one, and became paralysed. I ran towards him and
killed the ghoul. The speed vanished but I still felt like five years younger. The dwarf
had joined us and we continued through one of the doors. We found four or five room that
seemed to be very nice and pleasent rooms, a millenia ago. When we searched the last room a
shadow floated up from under the bed. He attacked us and in a last attempt Jargail pointed
the "star wand" on him and a little red dot floated to his nose, or where his nose would be
if he was human. We all remembered the little incident upstairs so in panic we all ran out
the door, the shadow apparently knew what it was because he fled through a crack in the
wall. We waited outside and then... BOOOM, fire blasted out from the room and everything
inside it was blasted to bits and pieces. We peered in and saw that where the shadow had fled there was, or rather used to be, a secret door. Inside we saw a large room, with a
giant statue. We went in and the statue stood up and started to through his huge warhammer
against us. Nimsaf and Jargail said that it was alright that he was only an illusion.
Pherchel and I didn't think so, so we waited outside the opening. They found another stair
down, farther down... Loki had grown back to his normal size when we came back. Because
almost everybody was deadly hurt we decided that we should go out in the woods and rest
until tomorrow, so that we can come back and cleanse this place once and for all.
(31th of Serenem)
The next morning we decided that Pherchel and Loki should stay in the forest while the
others went down to cleanse the place. We (Nimsaf, Jargail, Reilon and I) went back down to
the underground. We came to a roughly outcarved dungeon. We went on with cautious steps and
in one of the rooms that was really huge there was a door and a passage leading out. The
passage was only about three feet high and in there we could see a staff leaning against
one of the walls. I went in there first, beeing the only warrior. I crawled in and just
indide I saw this huge "blob" coming from the ceiling at me. I tried to jump from it but it
caught me. The Blob was made of some kind of acid and it started to melt my armor away. I
tried to grab it and take it of me, but it was almost alive so I couldn't grab it. Then I
laid down trying to crush it against the floor. Reilon and Nimsaf used their weapons,
trying to take the thing of me while Jargail rushed to the staff and cast Detect Magic on
it, glad to have found a new treasure. When I screamed of pain and agony, he came to help.
The others had got some of the thing away from me, but there was lot left. Jargail hit me
with his staff, trying to hit the Blob, but in that hit a passed out.
I awoke when Nimsaf gave me some of his magic berries that could heal. The Blob was "dead"
and I was deadly hurt. I thougt that if I drank the potion of invisibility that I found at
the wizards lab I could go with them and maybe help anyway. I said that to the others and
nobody disagreed. I drank the potion and to my surprise I became, not only invisible, but
in a gas form to. So I couldn't say anything to the others. Well I went along with them.
They opened the door we had found in the other room. Behind that door there was a long
corridor and at the end of the corridor there was a room and in the room stood a man made
of stone. He charged my companions, and I couldn't say or do anything. I floated in the
room trying to find out if there were more monsters, but I couldn't find any. Nimsaf and
Jargail fighted the stoneman but it looked like they needed some help. I knew that if you
hit someone while beeing just invisible the invisibility would disappear so I hoped it
would be the case with smoke. It was a longshot but I did have to do something. I floated
against the creature with intention to hit it. What I didn't know was that the invisibility
had already worn of and that Jargail and the others already could see me, but in a green
mistlike shape. Jargail held his hands up in a final attempt to kill the stoneman, Fire
raced from his hands towards the stoneman, but I got caught in the fire as well. I remember
when I fell down I could hear Nimsafs shout and the heavy body of the stoneman when he
fell. I couldn't open my eyes, my eyelids had melted together. I could feel every part of
my skin and body, I tried to cry out in pain but I couldn't move or say anything. Then I
heard some voices. One said: "I know he had some potions.", another one said: "Give him
some potions." And I felt hands fumbling around my belt, or what was left of it. Then the
hands found something and I could feel something beeing poured in my mouth and down to my
stomach. I could feel myself die. Just then I could sense a mind far away and all I could
think of was that I have to flee death, I have to get away.
After a while I came to my senses. I could see the forest and the sky and I thought they
had rescued me. But it came to me that the forest looked small. I stood up and to my surprise I was almost as tall as small trees. I looked at my hands and they were huge. I
was a giant! Then it came to me. The mind I could sense was the mind of a hill giant, and
somehow the potion they poured in me had made us switch minds. I have to go back to my
friends. I looked around and I knew where to go. After a while, amazed how fast a giant can
walk, I came to the camp outside the castle. Pherchel and Loki lied there sleeping. Then it
came to me, that the horses and all our stuff had been stolen. It can only be those Bug
Bears."
"When Nimsaph, Jargail and Reilon came up from the dungeons I had proven to Loki that I was
K'Varak, which was difficult because I was a 15-foot giant. Nimsaph and the rest came to us
with some caution, and they were carrying my (former) body. We agreed that we should go
back to the town to rest and try to heal my body so that, maybe, I can return to it. When
Pherchel awoke he was sooo angry because the Bug Bears had taken his Girdle of Giant
Strenght, he went almost berserk and ran inside the castle to kill some Bug Bears. But
there wasn't any left, they had all ran away.
(34th of Serenem)
When we returned to the town, the clerics there all put me (that is, my body) on the ground
and started some healing spells. My body healed back to life and I felt my mind pouring
from my giantbody to my own dear body, and then I passed out. It was told to me that the
giant got his mind back and boy was he pissed. Pherchel and Nimsaph took care of him before
he did any real damage. We rested there for around a week, so that I could heal, and we
decided that we should go back to the castle and cleanse it once and for all. Pherchel
wanted to stay behind and make himself a greataxe that he would name "Bug Bear Slayer".
(3rd of Lapidem)
We came back to the castle and then started to go through the place bit by bit. Nimsaph,
Jargail and Reilon had searched almost everywhere. We went to a locked door and Loki tried
to picklock the lock. When he failed Jargail took out his starwand and used it on the door.
We backed away, knowing the power of the wand. He uttered the magic words and then the door
transformed into an huge ape. The ape started to run against us, but luckily Jargail had a
ring of mammal control and controlled the ape. Inside, behind the door, we saw three huge
eyeballs floating in the air. They had tentacles with eyes on the tip of each one. They
looked like evil creatures. Inside we saw an table with a (spell?)book, some swords and
scrolls. We went inside, ready for battle, when they said "hello, welcome". They didn't
actually say it, they like, said it in our minds. They were quite nice and we chatted for a
while. They even gave Nimsaph a scroll that was a scroll of Cure Serious Wounds. We parted
and continued to search the dungeon. Down a level we found a closed door, we could feel
cold coming from behind the door. We opened the door and inside we encountered several
zombies and skeletons. We destroyed them quickly. Behind the next door we saw a room and
then I blinked...
(8th of Lapidem)
I opened my eyes and found out that all of us, except Nimsaph, had fallen under a charm
spell for five days. Nimsaph told us a story about an undead guy that was good but couldn't
be destroyed by ordinary means. He then asked the gods how to destroy him so that he could
have his final rest. After a day or so he were given a spell, a exorcise spell, from the
gods that he used on the good undead guy, Nargeil Grey. When Nargeil became free and
finally got his rest he granted Nimsaph a Wish. Nimsaph didn't have to think long and said
that he wished that we, his friends, became us selves again. Then we awoke and were glad to
see Nimsaph.
Jargail wanted the (spell?)book, that we found in the room with the eyecreatures very much.
So much that he managed to talk Loki into getting it, but I knew that if we would take the
book, Nimsaph would be very angry and upset because, first of all he had befriended them
and second, this place had some religious meaning, he felt connected with the gods here.
And fortunately I could talk Loki out of the crazed idea, not just because it would mean
splitting up the group, but also because they looked kindy scary and we want to be fit for
fight when we meet the evil priests of Aryak with the Thousand Eyes. We then decided that
we would go back to the city, and ask the wizard there if he's got any leads to where the
evil men hed stolen the eye three weeks ago.
(10th of Lapidem)
When we came back to the city, the wizard had indeed found out something about the eye. He
knew, not exactly but near, where the eye were. He had marked it out on a map that he gave
us. Pherchel where gone, we were told that he had gone away to kill some Bug Bears. We
decided that we couldn't wait for Phercel because maybe the evil men that took the eye will
be moving and then be gone. But we waited until we were fully rested and then went on to
catch some bad guys.
(16th of Lapidem)
After travelling the country for a couple of days we came to a swamp, we didn't have to cross it, just travel beside it. After a day or so by the swamp we were ambushed by a bunch
of lizardmen by evening. We noticed them when they hit us with their spears they had thrown
at us. Loki and I got hit and we fell off our horses. Then they charged, half a dozen from
the front and the others attacked us from behind. There was a wild fight, Nimsaph shot with
his crossbow, Jargail burned the ones behind us and Loki and I fighted side by side. I got
knocked out cold by a hit on my head. When I woke up, we had set camp on a hillside, so
that we could sleep and rest and be on our way first thing in the morning. Loki had to heal
himself so he was meditating, and I knew that if we disturbed him in his meditation he
could be injured. Jargail had to be sleep the whole night because he was very tired of the
spellcasting he had done earlier. So Nimsaph and I watched them that night. It was very
tiresome, and we jumped up when we heard a sound. Then we heard a splashing noise down in
the swamp. Nimsaph looked down, but didn't see anything, I watched our backs. Then we heard
it again, and he saw something move down there. He cast a Light spell on the thing. It was
"only" a crocodile. We sat down again, our hearts settling down. Suddenly, from nowhere, a
lizardman jumped in front of us. And anotherone was behind him. I kicked Jargail so that he
would wake up. Nimsaph knew that I was badly injured so he used his Cure Serious Wounds
scroll that he had on me, and I charged the lizardmen. Then two others came from a different direction. Nimsaph shoot them with his crossbow. They all died and Jargail tried
to get back to sleep.
(17th of Lapidem)
The next morning, when Loki was done healing himself, we continued. Lokis horse had been
slain yesterday by the lizardmen so he sat behind Nimsaph on his horse. After a couple of
hours looking everywhere for traps, a large net dropped out from the sky. We got caught in
the net, but managed to get out. When we did we were surrounded by lots of lizardmen, but
they were not attacking. They just stood there, trying to look fearsome, and pointed their
spears at us. One of them approached us, he was dressed in some feathers and his spear had
feathers on it. We thought that maybe he was their leader. He said "You help us and we will
kill you not, we will let you pass without harm". We talked a little and it turned out that
someone had come and that he was holy and he had taken over the whole lizardmen tribe. His
name was Sungol. The (lizard)man we spoke with wanted to get rid of him, and he wanted us
to do it. We didn't want to argue with them so we agreed. One of them would show us their
camp and we would fix it. After a couple of kilometers in the swamp we had come to the
camp. It was more like four houses on a higher ground so that it was above swamplevel. I
became invisible, using a ring I had found, and sneaked inside. The camp was empty, but in
one of the houses, the largest one, a lizardman came out, I saw that there was a crowd
inside so I sneaked in while the door was open. I saw the man we was looking for. He looked
much like the lizardman that had sent us here, but he was larger and stronger. Suddenly I
heard a cry from outside. It was the lizardman that had gone out, He was shoot to death by
Nimsaph and Loki. All the other lizardmen ran out to kill the intruders and the leader went
just outside the door, fists on his hips and smiling broadly when he looked at his
lizardmen and saw my three companions, and expected a slaughter. I cut his throat. When the
others ran against my friends, Nimsaph created an geyser of oil under the lizardmen, they
all became soaked by it. Jargail ignited the oil and they all burned to almost instant
death. Hah, that was just to easy. We searched the rest of the little houses. The first one
had clothes, human clothes on a bench, neatly folded together. Buried under the remains of
the campfire we found a spellbook, we don't know who it belonged to but we imagined it was
of a former resident. We went on to the next cottage, and, under the campfire, buried, we
found a little box. I got pinned by a little trap so I got paralyzed. Damn, I thought.
Nimsaph said he would go the last cottage and look through there while we waited. When he
got outside, he saw a couple of bright missiles hitting him on his chest. He fell backwards
inside the cottage. I, and Jargail, saw at once that it was magic missiles. Nimsaph jumped
out looking everwhere to see the where the shooter was, but he didn't see anybody. Then,
the sky brightened up and Nimsaph jumped just in time to seek shelter inside the cottage,
but his metal armor drew the lightning bolts that was shot at him through the ceiling and
hit him in his back. He passed out cold. Then the whole roof was lifted up by a huge
dragon, and thrown away. Jargail used his lightning bolt staff and shot the dragon in
panic. To our surprise dragon fell and died, with a surprised look on his face. Jargail and
Loki ran out and saw that the dragon was a human who had polymorphed himself to a dragon.
hey carried him inside. Loki felt he had a potion on his belt, and he looked. A healing
potion! Great! They ran with it to Nimsaph and poured it in him. He was stabilized. After a
couple of minutes the paralyze vanished and I could move again. We made a little raft of
the benches so that we could move Nimsaph away. We got to the leader we had spoken with
earlier and he said that we had safe passage now. Thanks, we said, and we left. We fastened
the raft on one of the horses so that we could ride on. Loki said that if we went back, we
would loose two or three weeks and maybe Aryaks followers could bring him here, it was
urgent to hurry. We all agreed and we left for the place where we thought the eye was.
(20th of Lapidem)
After a couple of days we saw a hige piece of metal, it was a iron castle. We looked at it
for a few moments when we felt a very bad stench. The horses got really worried and it was
hard to control them. Then suddenly a couple of troglodytes jumped out from the woods and
attacked us. It was a quick fight and they all died without harming us, almost. One of the
trogs had a piece of map in his belt, marking an x at a spot in the walls of the castle. We
decided that we should rest this day and go there in the morning. Nimsaph was conscious and
he buried himself, he does that sometimes, he says that it heals him...
(21st of Lapidem)
- Elwyn the Ardent
We began our travel back to the city, it would take some time because Nimsaph was
badly injured.
(32nd Lapidem)
At last, we are back. During the travel Nimsaph had woken up and buried himself
in soil so hat he could heal up. I the citys tavern we encountered a ghost from
Nimsaphs past. A cleric came in and accused him for murder. Loki an K'Varak
followed the man when he went out. They saw him with a huge barbarian and a
paladin of the Pale. That night Nimsaph were kidnapped. We started searching and
saw a camp just outside the city. We believed that it was there the kidnappers
were last night.
(33rd Lapidem)
We started our journey to follow some tracks that led from the camp.
(35th Lapidem)
We came upon the man that left the tracks, but it was only the paladin that we
found. He told us that we were fools to follow him, that the cleric and Nimsaph
had flown away on a small dragon. We cursed ourselfs to be such fools and headed
back
(39th Lapidem)
When we came back I went to the courtmage to discuss some matter involving Aryak
and how to locate the other orbs, while the others tried to find a clue to were
Nimsaph were taken. When I got back, they were all gone. I thought they had a
crucial clue and were forced to follow it immeditiately, so I lent back an
enjoyed the maids on the tavern.
(40th Lapidem)
That night they came back, but Loki wasn't with them. I asked were he was and they
told me he was in his room. I went up to see him and I found him... a little
changed... he had turned into a doll. A little doll, no more than a foot tall.
Then he told me they had all been captured by some puppetmaster that had turned
him to a... doll.
(1st of Marem)
When I woke up it was already dark outside. I figured that I had
been asleep the whole day, then I felt it, there was a war going on
inside my head. This was the worst hangover I've ever had. What could
I do, the answer was easy, go back to sleep.
(2nd of Marem)
This morning the headache was getting better and I went downstairs
to my friends. They were discussing what we should do. There were two
options:
1, Try to save Nimsaph.
2, Travel to the Milachian Isles, where we had heard that we could
find more leads to the other Eyes of Aryak.
Of course I wanted to save my friend, who more than once had helped
me, but we didn't knew where they had taken him, and when I realized
that they were more interested in getting to Krakatos, well that's
OK. As far as I know, Nimsaph is more than capable of taking care of
himself. At least he can get away. Now my interest was getting back to
that nice bed.
(3rd of Marem)
What a wonderful morning, except the weather. I had a meeting with
the magician in the castle, where I rewrote the most important
spells. Then he promised to take care of my books. Later that day I
went out to buy food and warm clothes for our journey.
(4th of Marem)
We left the city early in the morning in company with five other
men. Beside the weather everything was alright and nothing special
happened.
(12th of Marem)
As usually, Rifgin went hunting in the morning, but this morning
he came back and told us that he had found a dead man in the
forest. He took us there and we found a high elf with two arrows in
the back. We also found a letter, adressed to someone called Rahasia
who lived in Hutan. We decided to get him back to Hutan and hopefully
meet Rahasia. Rodnish, who has some great strength had to carry the
elf all the way to Hutan. By noon we arrived. The first thing that
came to me was that there were only women and children in the
village. After asking around we found Rahasia and told her what had
happend to the young man we had found and we also gave her the
letter. She told us what had happend to the village, and to make a
long story short: 1, The village was cursed and
2, all men were trapped in a temple.
I'm a gentleman and surrounded by women of course we would do anything
to help. By the way, elf women are the most beautiful I've ever
seen. I don't want to brag, but I'm a ladykiller, so who knows maybe I
could get some later on.
(13th of Marem)
Rahasia showed us the way to the temple and when we got there
K'Varak used his magic ring and got invisible. We were standing in
the rain outside a wooden door that was partly open. K'Varak said he
should go inside and look around. When he came back he told us that
there was a Gargoyle sitting at the other side of the room. K'Varak
went in first, I followed and behind me came Rifgin. One step inside
the room I saw the Gargoyle, but not on where K'Varak said he should
be. Instead he was a few meters away from me, trying to attack. I
throwed myself away, just in time, but the Gargoyle was fast and
changed his attack and caught Rifgin. Now Rodnish came in and tried to
get the Gargoyle with his bow, he didn't, insted he hit Rifgin in his
arm. Then the Gargoyle took off with Rifgin in his claws. K'Varak and
Rodnish went after him. I and Loki went inside the temple just to look
around. Then we waited for the others to come back. They did, but
Rifgin wasn't with them, they said that he was alive, but who
knows. Inside the temple again we got in some minor trouble, well I
wouldn't call it trouble, anyway there was this HUGE skeleton with
four swords attacking us. What could I do, acid stream, fizz, he
suffered some great damage, you could see that. Then K'Varak attacked
him, hmm anyway a magic missile between the eyes did the job. We saw
that there was another person in the room, dressed in a black robe, he
disappeared through a secret door. We went after him, and suddenly we
encountered a big snake. I wouldn't call it a friendly face, but who
knows. Rodnish attacked him and got paralyzed. The rest of us started
to talk to the snake that showed out to be nice. He told us that he was
trapped here, but of course he would let us pass. After about fifteen
minutes Rodnish came together again, and we went on.
- Jargail
We came to a huge room with a very friendly snake in it, we talked to it
and he also wanted to kill the person we were looking for.
After the snake we came to this huge room full of magical items and
money, we picked one
thing each and then asked the snake if we could take it. We could, but
only if we promised
that we would kill the bastard that had gotten his way round him (the one we were chasing).
Of course we would, we said, count on us. We continued in a small passage and when we got
out we saw a big, big cave and inside it was a building of some sort. We went inside and it
was old and not used much. Jargail got turned into stone when he tried to go into a
treasurechamber. A witch charmed me to attack my friends and she broke Lokis puppetbody
into two while I was watching. I couldn't do anything about it. Rodnish managed to knock me
own, and when I woke up the charm had wore itself up. We freed the castle and went back to
town, where Rahasia was waiting.
We travelled to the city where we should meet Pherch, it took us about four days.
We found him in a tavern drinking with some dwarven friends he had found. He had found a
ship that was willing to take us along down to Krakatus, where my family is, from there we
would continue to Milachian Isles.
The day before our departure my wife and I had a little cosy dinner at a tavern. She gave
me a gift, a token of our love, a magic ring of platinum. That night I got a note where it
said that a man had information about Aryaks eyes and he wanted to meet me at the other
side of town at midnight. When I got there I didn't saw anybody. I waited for about half an
hour and then I got some funny feelings. I ran back home, but too late. I opened the door.
Checked Hamlin. He was ok. Checked Gresdin... she was on the bed... not moving... l
lifeless... I went nearer... then I saw... her eyes had been... they were missing... she
hadn't any eyes!
Then we took of to Milechian Isles.
The Second Year
(...This is where Loki, Pherchel and Redthorn died...)
(26th of Umbrem 1637 aI (after Iridos,
founder of the Iridian Empire))
After Lokis, Pherchels and Redthorns death, Jargail, Nimsaph and I
travelled by boat to west, in search for another ruby eye of Aryak. We
would find it in Quagmire.
(2nd of Nubilem)
A month before arrival we docked in Specularum and Nimsaph told us that
he would travel north to Arentia and see if they needed any more help.
(18th of Nubilem)
We docked in the harbor of Oriz, in Iridia. There a woman called Red Zora
joined us, she was willing to work almost free and she were accepted in
the crew. The other men didn't look at her as if she were a women, but as
a warrior. Well, one did whistle after her, but now he can't whistle
anymore. She is strong, hardworking and it's nice to look at her, without
her noticing of course.
(18th of Ignem)
We can see a pirateship gaining on us. There is no chance of escape
because the wind is almost still and the pirates have some kind of slave
ship with sailes. Before we come close they start firing arrows and a
magician is shooting fireballs so that our mast is struck down. When they
board us they swarm the deck of our ship. Jargail had levitated up in the
air and was shooting magic at their leader and magician, while Red Zora
and I was trying to fight the pirates. When the pirateleader dies, the
magician waves a hand and all the pirates vanishes. We search their ship
and set their prisoners to rescue. They are all greatful. One of the
prisoners was from Quagmire and he knew how to get there, he said that
their city was beseiged by reptilemen and that he and two others were
sent away for help. Our boat was so badly damaged that we were forced to
take the boat to land for repairations. Red Zora, Jargail, I, the man
from Quagmire and a cleric that were a prisoner left with the pirateship
with a skeleton crew to search for the pirates island because we were
told that there would be more prisoners there.
(22nd of Ignem)
We have found the island where the pirates have their nest. The crew and
the man from Quagmire waits on the ship while we four goes in to search
the island. We found a cave, and we decided to look into that. The first
thing we see is two guards, but they have been slaughtered and burned.
Inside the cave, we see bodies everywhere, and every body is either
butchered or burned to death. We search for the rest of the prisoners,
but the thing that has murdered the others, haven't spared these
defenseless men and women. After a while we find a path leading to the
other side of the island. It's a minor valley with a small forest and a
little lake on the other side. We follow the trail to the lake. In front
of the lake there is some kind of altar. And on the altar lies the pirate
leader, sacrificed by the looks of him. Next to the altar lies the
magician and another man, dead, just like the others.
We start making preparations to leave when suddenly Jargail sees a
passage under the lake. He swims under and in. When he comes back he
says that there is a cave and it's above
water. We swam there and opened the door. Inside is a complicated maze, full of twists and
turns and it takes us quite some time to search it all. After a while we come to a very
large and cold room, it's filled with water, like a pool, deep, very deep and we can see
that there are small stones that leads towards the center that you can walk on. But we
can't see where it leads because the room is thick with mists. We start to walk on the
stones when we suddenly are attackad by a giant crab. I lost my magical rapier in the
water, but Red Zora makes the crab wish he had slept over this day. The water is so cold
and deep that no human can swim down, so I guess my rapier is lost forever. We go over to
the other side and there we find a passage that leads to a closed door.
Behind that door a fire devil waited for us. He charmed Jargail and knocked out the cleric
cold. I became invisible and went round him. Jargail, against his will, shooted magic at
Red Zora so she became unconscious. It was I against Jargail and a fire devil from hell.
Then I saw Red Zora waking up. I conjured five magical daggers and I activated the
firesword, I had got from Gresdin (my wife, may she rest in peace), so that it would
protect me from the fire of both Jargail and the devil. Then I threw the daggers at the
devil, he staggered, then he laughed but he got something in his throut, it was Red Zoras
sword that she stabbed the devil through the back and lifted him up. The devil died and
Jargail became him self again. We checked the cleric and he was ok. We made an interesting
find, Jargail and I. We found a description to the whereabouts of a legendary lightning
magicians book.
(24th of Ignem)
We went back to the repairsite and told the bad news about the dead prisoners, and there
wasn't much joy. We helped to repair the boat, and then the rescued prisoners went away
on the pirateship and we resumed our course to Quagmire this time. The man from Quagmire
showed us the way.
(37th of Ignem)
We came to the shore closest to Quagmire, Red Zora became very sick and
stayed behind to recover. The man from Quagmire (his name was Kesshoff)
told us that we should be
careful, because the lizardmen was in these woods.
After walking for a few days, Jargail, I and Kesshoff came close to Quagmire.
We went there and saw a tower in a lake. Kesshoff told us that where the lake
should be a city, the city must have sunken and the only thing visible was the
tower of Quagmire. Around the tower a couple of boats with plenty of Lizardmen
sat waiting for a chance to enter the tower. We waited to the night and Jargail
walked with us, with his boots of levitating, up to the entrance of the tower.
Once up there a couple of guards attacked us, but Kesshoff told them that we
were friends and they let us past. We met with the leader of the bunch, and he
we asked if he knew anything about the ruby (an eye of Aryak). He told us that
he knew where the ruby was, but he asked us to help him and his people. The
water was rising, and the lizardmen was only waiting for a chance to attack the
tower. He wanted that we would take him to another tower south of here.
We knew that we wouldn't be a match for the lizardmen so we had to come
up with something else. Jargail asked his small genie, that was trapped inside
a ring, if he could do anything, he couldn't but he could feel a much stronger
genie a couple of days walk north. But in a couple of days this tower would be
in the lake, and this people overwhelmed by lizardmen. Jargail asked if the
genie could fly us there and he said yes, but he wouldn't be able to fly us
back unless he rests a few days first. We took the chance that the other genie
would help us, and we flew away.
So we went there just to find out that she was very weak ,and was dying. We asked what it
was and she told us that there was much evil in the forest. She said that she could help
us with the translations, but she was weak and we have to help her first.
